Antivirus free of analysts predicted Microsoft would threaten the sustainability of the existing anti-virus companies like Symantec, McAfee and others.

“Microsoft’s plan for not paying poured antivirus is very good news for consumers. But this news was not enough fun for the competitors,” said PC industry analyst of Endpoint Technologies Associates, Roger Kay, was quoted as saying by Reuters on Friday (19/6/2009 ).

This resentment seems ripped from one of the major antivirus companies in the world. Through Symantec’s Senior Director Dave Cole, the company said that antivirus and antispyware products of Microsoft has been misinterpreting the meaning of the actual security software.

“PC users need a super-tight network security, extra firewall protection, spam eradication, and other features that can only be obtained through subscription security program,” said Cole.

But Microsoft denied the company would compete directly with Symantec, McAfee or others. One purpose of this holding of free software, the Microsoft spokesman said Theresa Burch, is to provide convenience to the user’s PC that has not had a chance to buy antivirus for PC.

In fact, Microsoft insists, antivirus is only used to combat software viruses carrying potentially harmful PC. While full poteksi as encryption, firewalls, data backup, and parental control, will still rely on the support of leading antivirus companies.

But Enderle Group analyst Rob Enderle said, consumers are not concerned with such features as the most important to them is offered a free pattern.

“If there’s something nice and offered free of charge, for what we should buy?” Enderle pointed out.

This concern is justified. The reason, Microsoft offers the same antivirus products usually offered by Symantec, McAfee and Trend Micro subscription cost approximately $ 40 per year.
